White congressional candidate wants to participate in forum, but is told she can’t
Because Liz Carter is white, she’s banned from debating Democrat Rep. Hank Johnson and the other black candidates running for his Georgia congressional seat at a candidate forum in Atlanta tonight.
The forum, moderated by Newsmakers Live, is solely for the black Republicans and Democrats running for Johnson’s 4th Congressional District seat, Carter took to the Internet to say.
Carter, a Republican, expressed her disappointment on Twitter Wednesday, asking, “What happened to diversity?”
“We called them, we asked to participate,” said Carter’s campaign manager, Cheryl Prater. But she said Newsmaker Live’s event moderator, Maynard Eaton, told the campaign that because Carter is white, she’s only allowed to sit in the audience and not participate.
Newsmakers Live is a black media organization, which according to its website has a “global urbane perspective” and publishes a weekly journal and video show that “embodies a unique ‘infotainment’ concept that specializes in intense interviewing of prominent personalities and political figures.” Its website includes videos titled, “Are Black Babies An Endangered Species,” and “Moving African-American Businesses to the Next Level.”
Maynard, the editor-in-chief of Newsmakers Live, did not immediately respond to a request for comment by e-mail. But a flier advertising the event’s guests only shows the photos of the three black Democrats and one black Republican running for the seat: Hank Johnson,Vernon Jones and Connie Stokes, all Democrats, and Republican candidate Cory Ruth.
“By inviting this black Republican, they’ve made it racial,” said Prater. There are a couple other white candidates who were not invited to the program, Prater said.
Carter, she said, has worked to garner black support in the heavily black district and was endorsed by the College Republicans at Atlanta’s predominantly black Morehouse College.
Tonight the candidate will at least make an attempt to get on stage. “We’re showing up,” Prater said.
This reliably Democratic district congressional district has been the subject of embarrassment over the years, as firebrand conspiracist Cynthia McKinney once held the seat. Among Johnson’s gaffes, he became an Internet sensation this year by suggesting, on camera during a congressional hearing, that the island of Guam could “tip over and capsize” due to overpopulation.
Staffers on Capitol Hill were calling it the Louisiana Purchase.
On the eve of Saturday's showdown in the Senate over health-care reform, Democratic leaders still hadn't secured the support of Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.), one of the 60 votes needed to keep the legislation alive. The wavering lawmaker was offered a sweetener: at least $100 million in extra federal money for her home state.
And so it came to pass that Landrieu walked onto the Senate floor midafternoon Saturday to announce her aye vote -- and to trumpet the financial "fix" she had arranged for Louisiana. "I am not going to be defensive," she declared. "And it's not a $100 million fix. It's a $300 million fix."
Regulations intended to shed light on bundling by lobbyists are coming up short. According to an Associated Press review published last week, which compared invitations to fund-raisers hosted by lobbyists and campaign finance reports filed with the Federal Election Commission from March 19 through June, lawmakers have yet to disclose funds they raised at 195 events.

Senate Finance Committee Democrats have rejected a GOP amendment that would have required a health overhaul bill to be available online for 72 hours before the committee votes.
Republicans argued that transparency is an Obama administration goal. They also noted that their constituents are demanding that they read bills before voting.
The Democrats noted that unlike other committees, the Finance Committee works off conceptual language that describes policies — instead of legislative language that ultimately becomes law, and which the GOP amendment would have required.
Democrats accepted an alternate amendment to make conceptual language available online before a vote.
Currently, the only version of Chairman Max Baucus’s proposal we have is a 223-page draft (PDF) that is written in plain English and explains the bill in conceptual terms. Republicans argued that until the bill is written in legislative language it will be impossible for the CBO to provide an accurate cost estimate.
The Bunning ammendment would have required the committee to have the legislative language of the bill, along with the CBO cost estimate, posted on the internet for 72 hours before a vote.
Democrats argued that waiting for the legislative languange to be written, and for the CBO to evaluate it, would needlessly delay the process by weeks.
“Let’s be honest about it, most people don’t read the legislative language,” Sen. John Kerry said.
The Bunning amendment was defeated by a 12 to 11 vote,
with Arkansas Sen. Blanche Lincoln the only Democrat voting in favor.

Jane Norton formally enters Senate race
Saying she had become "more and more alarmed about the direction our nation is headed," Jane Norton, a Republican and former lieutenant governor, formally launched her 2010 campaign for the U.S. Senate today with rallies spanning the state, including one at the downtown Antlers Hilton.
Norton's theme here and at appearances in Denver and Grand Junction was the size and reach of the federal government.
"At every turn, Washington's giant hand seems to be grabbing everything in sight," she said, "seizing control of our car companies, banks, insurance companies, exploding the national debt and chipping away at individual liberty."

For years the Bush Administration was criticized for not cleaning up enough of the nation's most contaminated waste sites. The O administration has plans for doing even less. Environmental groups and some democratic lawmakers railed against President George W. Bush's cleanup record. But this time, they're shying away from speaking out. Golly Mr. Bester Tester I wonder why? Aren't they non-partisan? Don't they view the environment the same now as before or is it just more of the extreme leftist partisan hack politics.
Government Health care?? I don't think it would be a good idea for many reasons. One of the arguments for it is that the cost of our health care is high and keeps going higher. Well yeah!!! Now let's look at the reasons for that. First of all is big government intervention, like all the freakin' paper work that's required to remain in practice. A form for this and verification for that, A doctor has to add a few extra people on staff just to complete the paper work properly. Secondly is the insurance, my god, in this sue happy culture we live in a doctor has to have millions of dollars in insurance. Thirdly the HMO's became the middle man between the insurance companies and the doctors, you know their going to get their share.
Now that's three main reasons for increased cost of medical coverage. Do you think the doctors are going to absorb those costs??? Hell no, that cost is being past on either to the insurance companies or the government (in the case of our failing medicare and medicaid programs).
These programs were put in place by the Democrat led Congress and Senate. Now they want to put more of the same expensive, failing policies into effect and into play. Do I believe they'll succeed? NO!! But unfortunately they will gain a bit more of a foothold and move their progressive agenda further towards attaining that goal. Just a little bit at a time till it's accomplished. Patients will win out.
Another activist Judge overturns a voter approved amendment. Now my question would be why??? Jeepers, this amendment was opposed by the unions who have a very strong presents in this state. Do you think that could have anything to do with it? I personally believe that the unions can buy and sell anything and anyone they feel like. Do you suppose they were holding something over this judges head to bend her will or just plain bought her off. I do!! My opinion is that since she has had a few decisions overturned by the Supremes. As a matter of fact, all of her decisions that have been heard by the Supremes, have been overturned. It makes me wonder really how qualified she is.

CIVIL LITIGATION
Since joining the Second Circuit in 1998, Sotomayor has authored over 150 opinions, addressing a wide range of issues, in civil cases. To date, two of these decisions have been overturned by the Supreme Court; a third is under review and likely to be reversed. In those two cases (and likely the third), Sotomayor’s opinion was rejected by the Supreme Court’s more conservative majority and adopted by its more liberal dissenters (including Justice Souter). Those outcomes suggest that Sotomayor’s views would in many respects be similar to those of Justice Souter.
I really gotta wonder about the people of Minnesota. I mean come on. first that WW wrestler guy and now this funny man freakin' Franken. Or like they said in the paper this morning "former comedian" yeah right". Minnesota's supreme Court made a wrong decision.
As I listen to talk radio I'm always amazed at some of the callers. Some callers are quick to quote the latest poll's from their favorite source. Don't people realize that you can get a poll to come across with what ever results you're paying for. That most poll's are worthless as a source of good information and/or facts. Please don't ever quote a poll to me. Another point that's always being brought up is that the talk show host is intolerant towards callers with a different opinion or from the opposite side of the isle. Well guess what, It's true, from both side of the political spectrum. If you don't believe me listen to programing that you normally would not listen too. You'd be surprised as to how short and snappy the hosts can be while brushing aside the discussion. Why? Do you suppose it's because the caller actually has a point that's worth discourse. Are people so ignorant as to believe there's only one answer, there's only one solution. Something else that's really got me going is how similar both sides are in their attack of the other, yet how similar in content the ranting is. Who's taking away who's freedoms, who's taking away our constitutional rights, who's the biggest spender? Jesus, look in the freakin' mirror. The Government has us sufficiently divided amongst ourselves that they can do whatever it is they want with out a sufficient show of force to prevent their shenanigans I've heard people say Revolution. Yeah, we can have a revolution but in this country it's been done by the ballot box rather then by armed blood shed. Take for example the revolution during the nineties when the Democrats were basically kicked to the back of the bus. That in my opinion was a revolution. How about now!!! Yeah, this current revolution, where the Republicans have been kicked down hard. And guess what? There'll be other's just like those. I just wish my side would win once.

3.......From 5% on, they exercise an inordinate influence in proportion to their percentage of the population. For example, they will push for the introduction of halal (clean by Islamic standards) food, thereby securing food preparation jobs for Muslims. They will increase pressure on supermarket chains to feature halal on their shelves -- along with threats for failure to comply. This is occurring in:

4.......When Muslims approach 10% of the population, they tend to increase lawlessness as a means of complaint about their conditions. In Paris, we are already seeing car-burnings. Any non-Muslim action offends Islam, and results in uprisings and threats, such as in Amsterdam , with opposition to Mohammed cartoons and films about Islam. Such tensions are seen daily, particularly in Muslim sections, in:

It is important to understand that in some countries, with well under 100% Muslim populations, such as France, the minority Muslim populations live in ghettos, within which they are
100% Muslim, and within which they live by Sharia Law. The national police do not even enter these ghettos. There are no national courts, nor schools, nor non-Muslim religious facilities. In such situations, Muslims do not integrate into the community at large. The children attend madrasses. They learn only the Koran. To even associate with an infidel is a crime punishable with death. Therefore, in some areas of certain nations, Muslim Imams and extremists exercise more power than the national average would indicate.
Today's 1.5 billion Muslims make up 22% of the world's population. But their birth rates dwarf the birth rates of Christians, Hindus, Buddhists, Jews, and all other believers. Some say Muslims will exceed 50% of the world's population by the end of this century.
The strategy of forcing political change through orchestrated crisis…. …the “Cloward-Piven Strategy” seeks to hasten the fall of capitalism by overloading the government bureaucracy with a flood of impossible demands, thus pushing society into crisis and economic collapse.

Cloward and Piven were specific about the kind of "crisis" they were trying to create:
By crisis, we mean a publicly visible disruption in some institutional sphere. Crisis can occur spontaneously (e.g., riots) or as the intended result of tactics of demonstration and protest which either generate institutional disruption or bring unrecognized disruption to public attention.
No matter where the strategy is implemented, it shares the following features:
1. The offensive organizes previously unorganized groups eligible for government benefits but not currently receiving all they can.
2. The offensive seeks to identify new beneficiaries and/or create new benefits.
3. The overarching aim is always to impose new stresses on target systems, with the ultimate goal of forcing their collapse.
Rudy Giuliani cited Cloward and Piven by name as being responsible for "an effort at economic sabotage." He also credited Cloward-Piven with changing the cultural attitude toward welfare from that of a temporary expedient to a lifetime entitlement, an attitude which in-and-of-itself has caused perhaps the greatest damage of all.
As they gleefully observed: Moreover, this kind of mass influence is cumulative because benefits are continuous. Once eligibility for basic food and rent grants is established, the drain on local resources persists indefinitely.
ACORN's voter rights tactics follow the Cloward-Piven Strategy:
* 1. Register as many Democrat voters as possible, legal or otherwise and help them vote, multiple times if possible.
* 2. Overwhelm the system with fraudulent registrations using multiple entries of the same name, names of deceased, random names from the phone book, even contrived names.
* 3. Make the system difficult to police by lobbying for minimal identification standards.
Cloward and Piven's aspirations for ACORN's voter registration efforts:
By advocating massive, no-holds-barred voter registration campaigns, they [Cloward & Piven] sought a Democratic administration in Washington, D.C. that would re-distribute the nation's wealth and lead to a totalitarian socialist state.
Illegal Immigration
As written elsewhere, the Radical Left's offensive to promote illegal immigration is "Cloward-Piven on steroids." ACORN is at the forefront of this movement as well.
Mortgage Crisis
In the 1980s, groups such as the activists at ACORN began pushing charges of "redlining"-claims that banks discriminated against minorities in mortgage lending. In 1989, sympathetic members of Congress got the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act amended to force banks to collect racial data on mortgage applicants; this allowed various studies to be ginned up that seemed to validate the original accusation.
A 1995 strengthening of the Community Reinvestment Act required banks to find ways to provide mortgages to their poorer communities. It also let community activists intervene at yearly bank reviews, shaking the banks down for large pots of money. Banks that got poor reviews were punished; some saw their merger plans frustrated; others faced direct legal challenges by the Justice Department.
Enter Barack Obama
